Company background

yoomoot is led by Barbara Nowacka and Nicolas Holzapfel . We met on an MA in Interactive Media at the University of the Arts London and the idea for yoomoot came out of a project we did together. Messy comments and forums was one thing we and other students all found frustrating about the Web and we became obsessed with solving it.

On 19 May 2009 we incorporated and the following September we launched the private beta.

yoomoot is based in London, UK.

Why 'yoomoot'?

The word 'moot' has several meanings. As a verb it means 'put forward for discussion'. In medieval England, whenever a community needed to get together to debate something they would have a 'moot' (it's where 'meet' comes from and is why the ents in the Lord of the Rings have an 'entmoot' to decide whether or not to help the hobbits).

'yoo' means, er, 'you'. youmoot.com wasn't available at the time and we liked the look of two 'oo's. Not so much etymology going on there.

So 'yoomoot' means, more or less, 'you discuss'.
