Can we have an option of how much detail we want, down to the tiniest change?

If it is super easy to go from an email notification about a change to see the change itself, then no big deal, but it is not so easy, and context shift is required.  Depending on what it is, I may want to have direct and immediate access to the details of changes.  

On the other extreme, I may not want to be notified more than once a day about the general overall status of an area of peripheral interest.  

Perhaps the ideal option (for some people) is to automatically scale the level of detail based on the amount of content per unit of time.  E.g. I want one digest per day of no more than two pages of content, so fill it up but don't flood me.
