Studies show that international aid to development countries, in general, is ineffective and usually makes things worse by:
- Fracturing governments as different ministries form alliances with different donor agencies, leading to disunity and inefficiency
- Destroying local industries which would otherwise provide the same services
- Wasting resources by sending goods and services where they're not need and through expensive marketing exercises
