Prototypes have functionality, mockups have graphics design, wireframes have neither
A wireframe doesn't include color, typography, photos or illustration and not too much care is given to the exact layout and proportions. It doesn't convey the brand. Instead it just contains descriptions of the content, functionality and the hierarchy within within which they are displayed.
A mockup goes a step further by adding those kind of things.
A prototype actually imitates some functionality of the finished product.
